Mazzocchioo as part of the 17th edition of the Venice Architecture Biennale
Currently a dual phenomenon is taking place in Romania: 3.4 million people left the country since it joined the European Union in 2007, while the percentage of immigrants coming to Romania has increased four times between 2005 and 2017, to 2% of the population. The urban implications triggered by this process legitimize Romania to initiate a debate related to the role of Architecture and Urbanism in this new context.
Fading Borders is a curatorial project which engages with this topic by bringing together two complementary projects – Away and Shrinking Cities in Romania, each one tackling the issue from a different viewpoint. As an outcome to the research presented at the Romanian Pavilion in Giardini, MAZZOCCHIOO magazine is invited to the New Gallery of the Romanian Institute of Culture and Humanistic Research in Venice to deepen the debate by gathering a series of contributions from acknowledged architects answering the question: How will Migration influence Architecture and the City?
